laptop uptime

Hi all.
I asked this on a distro specific forum since I use that distro, but I'm curious if people leave their laptop on all the time for any purpose or operating system.
Most I've left this on is overnight while downloading/installing upgrades and software.
The laptop came with xp, but I have 4 linux distros on it and will replace one with either OpenBSD or FreeBSD (I use them both considerably).
Thanks

ps mods- I hope this is proper place for this thread.

I have run laptops for up to 9 days straight when absolutely required, and where I work I have seen laptops run for three months straight. With that said I recommend against it - laptops are nowhere near as efficient with heat dispersal as desktop computers. Consequently they will run at higher temperatures which can lead to the premature failure of components and will lead to poor performance.

I see no reason to leave my laptop on for more than a few hours when I'm not using it. I generally shut it down if I'm not going to come back to it or if I'm going to bed. The longest I've left my laptop on was probably a full day when I used it in the morning and forgot about it while I was out running around, only to shut it down later that evening.

I didn't bookmark the page, but I saw some time ago that a guy used his lappy for a website, gateway, something. He had a pic of it on the website.
I've used mine (Aspire 3000) very little because of touchpad sensitivity. Just a brush of my palm and the cursor jumps all over while typing. Any way, after seeing that site, I've wondered if anybody else leaves theirs on for extended periods of time.

My father's "main" computer for home use is his laptop, which (whether he intends to or not) he leaves on almost constantly. He reboots it often and leaves it logged out, but he has been (unsuccessfully, for yet-unknown reasons) been trying to keep it going so he can remote into it from work. It hasn't melted or blown up yet, so I guess things are going good for him.
