Penny Arcade game for Linux
I don't know how many of you are fans of the webcomic Penny Arcade, but they've been working on a videogame for a few years now. It's nearing completion and apparently being released on Windows, Xbox 360, Mac, and Linux.

I do not respond to Private Messages asking for Linux help. Please, keep it on the public boards.

The game went live this morning. I purchased it and I'm downloading it as we speak. There's a Linux demo available off the Greenhouse site:

I've read some posts on the forums and the Hothead Studios folks are taking the Linux version seriously. Even if you don't want to buy it, try the demo! It's a brand new game with a native Linux client being released at the same time as XP and OS X. That's reason to celebrate in my book.Registered Linux user #270181

Well, I downloaded it but I've hit a couple of snags. One isn't their fault. I can't register the full version because the port they use is blocked by my work firewall. I'll do that at home.
The other causes my sound to crack and stutter. It's apparently a known issue with my Sigmatel STAC 9205 sound card. Annoying. It doesn't keep the game itself from playing, it's just hard to listen to. I've started a thread in their support forum and they said they're working on it.Registered Linux user #270181

Well this looks great and as you said it's great news for Linux even though I've never even heard of these comics. Is it some american only thing?
Looks exciting... I will try the demo.

Might be. I don't know that there's anything keeping international folks from reading Penny Arcade, but I can see if you hadn't heard of it.
An update on my game situation. I got it registered when I got home last night. It's a simple 10-second deal, and once you're registered no net connection is needed (take that, Steam).
A partial fix for my sound was posted today. It involves launching the game using the alsa-oss wrapper (aoss). I say partial because although this does work to make my sound just perfect, it unfortunately causes the game window to freeze when I try to quit. I'm still checking the forums for a possible solution to that.
Crackling sound aside, I've been playing the game for a couple of hours and it's very much along the same lines as the comic strip. If you like Mike and Jerry's sense of humor then, you'll like it in this game. Very fun game. I look forward to Episode 2.Registered Linux user #270181

Well, having played through the demo, I bought this yesterday... haven't really had a chance to get into it yet though.
The sound won't work unless I log out and back in though, which is a little annoying.
