    Exactly how many distros exist?

Before I started using Linux I had heard of the following:

    SuSe
    Mandrake
    Gentoo
    Slackware
    RedHat
    Knoppix
    Debian
    Fedora Core (1+2)

Then, when I started using Linux and then browsing the internet for related sites I find out about many more such as:

    DamnSmallLinux
    Yellow Dog
    Peanut

How many more are out there?

i think it would be near impossible to say exactly how many different distro's there are. There are probably people out there that have got a common distro such as gentoo, SuSE, redhat etc, and customised it and essentially made their own distro.

    - I never realised how many distros there were. I'm quite worried though that one team has decided to call there distro Linux XP.

That's a new distro out of Russia. They're attempting to make Linux look and feel identical Windows XP.
I'm not too fond of the philosophy but whatever they want I guess.
Being that they're based in Russia, I don't see Microsoft getting very far in an attempt to seek damages for their use of XP in the name. Also, I haven't seen much movement in developement lately.
OH NOOOOO!!!!!! You did it the way I said?

I worked at CDG for sometime, ...they had Jedi Linux on there machine..

i worked there several years ago, before i knew anything about *nix, all i remember was we had thse old VT100 terminals connected to a large mainframe...

it had jedi.uucp.org (The SCO Group) on the terminal login prompt... and SCO Group on the side of the main frame.. so i guess it wasnt really linux, and more unix?.. but i dunno..
