Where are they going?
Having had the typical techie cache of spare parts for so long, I hadn't really needed to go out and buy screws, cables, fans, etc., in a long time. That all changed recently, and now trying to find a source for these little incidentals has proven an eyeopener. Has anyone else noticed the dearth of brick & mortar stores?
Looking for these things in the past would have meant a quick drive to a local mom & pop computer wholesaler, or to Fry's, MicroCenter, CompUSA, or whatever. Imagine my surprise to learn that Microcenter has shrunk down to about 20 stores nationwide, and CompUSA has gone out of business entirely. Apparently, competition from online giants like Newegg, Tiger Direct, and CDW, is taking it's toll.
What is it like where you live? Are you seeing the same trend?

Here in Arizona we only have 2 fry's stores and all the Compusa stores are gone for good. Anyway I don't think they all are going to die in the near future Best Buy's are in every corner and charging $600 dollars to remove a virus on a Windows.
However Fry's moved to a different strategy instead of having many stores they mantain a few stores about or bigger than a super center.
Have you seen the Fry's electronics stores? Amazing
I just want to say that I only buy from Newegg even CAT6 cable is cheaper shipping included.
