    DNA in Distros

    Hi Coffee addicts.
Its not that I am Islamic or anything, and I am even quite well disposed to Tux, but there is a Linux distro stereotype to icons and logos that associates strongly with wierd and sometimes disturbing animal creatures.

Sure - its just a me thing that does not want to see a chamelion (SUSE) or a genetically strange footprint (GNOME) or claw prints from a rooster (Sabayon).
KDE is ok until you try to log out, when you meet Konqui. My Xfce4 Etch comes with a RAT very like the one in my garden I would try to shoot if the poison does not work!

Ubuntu originally had a plan view of three folk arms entwined in a circle, and I was pleased when it became a the stylized logo we know now. Most others also manage a non-animal presentation .. until you get to the desktop
OK - I admit - this foible is probably less than the usual 2cents worth.

hahahahaha... this is hilarious!! Get a distro with IceWM or Fluxbox window managers and I promise you wont have that problem as much. I think PCLOS and Mint have the two best logos. So maybe get one of those and install one of those two window managers and you will have no animalistic logos.

Dude! What happened at the zoo that still haunts you?

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

Maybe none of his pets growing up liked him very much?

Maybe standing to close to the gorilla pen?

I have to agree with Skittle, though. IceWM and Flux will get you away from the barnyard images!

    Hee hee

I admit, I was having some dark thoughts just then, and the comments have made me think some about old phobias maybe??

But no. What started as a coffee lounge confession has firmed into a (sort-of) self-knowledge opinion. I get truly turned off by the footprint, to the point I probably did not give Gnome a fair shake. Its even got features superior to the KDE comfort zone! I nearly did not find out SUSE 10.3 had much improved since 10.1, simply because PCLinuxOS was doing great, and I had no reason to suffer that gecko in a sea of green sensory overload.

My back yard is a zoo. I can see three rabbits out there, cute now, but one day I may get to eat one of them. One very decorative French pheasant, and his harem (4 or 5 I think). Every kind of bird discovering that bio-diversity is to be had at my place with free food.
Its also lambing season out on the field (yep - we are rural!) I like all that stuff!

Yet fundamentally, in what I choose to like, I am no better than the style-conscious girlie who turns down a great car just because of the colour - I guess
