RealPlayer 11 for Linux is now available
The RealPlayer 11 for Linux and its underlying fully open source Helix Player 11 are now both available. The RealPlayer 11 for Linux has many new features including support for playing Windows Media content on Linux. There is an integrated Playlist Editor and support for Perfect Play (Superbuffer). ALSA and surround sound playback are now supported also.
You can download the new RealPlayer for Linux from real.com
You can download Helix Player 11 (RPM, BIN and Source) from the Helix Community Downloads page.
Thanks for reading.

Hmm, I don't know what Realplayer offers that VLC doesn't (apart from read Realplayer video files, which can be done with Mplayer.) I just find it too bloated.

I hate to sound like a marketing cliche but RealPlayer is legal. I've been a Linux user for a while now and I totally understand where you are coming from but atleast in the US, downloading the w32codec pack (and libdvdcss2 and other proprietary codecs) is illegal without the a proper licensing / payment system blah blah blah
.
Our product is 100% legal and the end-user (you!) does not currently have to pay a dime to use it. Is our product perfect? No it isn't and it is users like you who will help us make it better
.
Like I mentioned, I understand the "who cares if the codecs are illegal" but I believe having a legal solution / offering when it comes to software will help Linux in the long run.

I didn't say anything about it not being legal! It's just that I find VLC faster and, most importantly from my point of view, free (as in speech). However, having said that, I and many other Linux users, am very happy that Realplayer is available in Linux. Thank you for that.
