A simple task, yet...
How would you solve the following task on Linux:
Have a TV-tuner card with analog input, and analog tv through aerials. I want to open up an application, go to the chanell, let's say BBC, push a "Start recording" button, and after a while have a recorded movie in mpeg, avi or other format on my HDD.
Is this possible? If yes, can you give me a detailed how to?
The MythTV is greek to me, I want something more simple, yet effective program, which would give me a good quality records. I don't need digital decoding etc.
I'm looking for the right program since 2 years ago, but found none. Thanks! If you need a CD/DVD catalogizer, give a try to my program:

Hmmm, I do this (or, at least, I have done this before) with Kaffeine. My tuner cards are actually digital (DVB) but the process is the same. There are TV applications available in the big distributions; I remember not being able to get any working with my digital terrestrial TV tuners, but you might have more luck with your tuner being analogue.
Take a look through your package manager lists for TV packages; you'll probably be quite surprised. And as they're all free - try them all until you get one that you like!
And now I'll go on to bore you with one of my fave Linux stores that just happens to be related to your question. One of my DVB cards runs on the USB port. In Linux I plugged it in and started Kaffeine. It worked, no fuss, no hassle, no reboots. On Windows I had to download the driver and app package from the manufacturer, endure a couple of reboots while it installed, and then suffer a really crap tv application. My laptop (where I use the USB TV stick) no longer uses windows though, so no more headaches...Linux user #126863 - see http://linuxcounter.net/
