    Hello and welcome!

    This sounds like a graphics card problem. What graphics card have you got? Have you tried installing Ubuntu with the alternative CD?
    Distribution: Archlinux
    Processor: 3 x Amd 64 bit
    Ram: 4 GB
    Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT
