I've used deviantART and Digital Blasphemy since forever, but these days I'm just as likely to head to GNOME-Look or KDE-Look for a quick change of pace. When I've got a little time to kill I might just google, say... "beaches + wallpaper" (insert your own preference) for sites like Wallpaper Abyss or others.

Actually, I've been to both vladstudio and Digital Blasphemy, and I really like the stuff that I find there. But my favorite way to get new backgrounds is to do like qv and just Google for whatever. Like 'Tux images' or 'psychedelic wallpapers'. I find all kinds of cool pics that way.

InterfaceLIFT: High-Resolution Widescreen Wallpaper (by date) is a place I go for good, high-resolution wallpapers. Most of them are landscape/pastoral shots.

Otherwise, deviant-art or a website I've found from said Google searching.

I really prefer the minimalistic/simple type wallpapers. They are very hard to find, as most wallpapers are far too busy for my personal tastes. Hours of googling has been keeping my browser cache quite full of images, but very few if any are being used on my desktop. I listed Vlad Studio as my first choice because that's where most of my minimal papers have come from.
Thanks to all for your recommendations. I'm checking them out as I can.
Edit: here are a couple of nice sites for others that might want very simplistic wallpapers:
