Thumbs up Kernel Based Mode Setting...sounds good to me :D

I was just reading this over at Phoronix. Looks like early adoption of the new Kernel based mode setting stuff. For those who haven't heard of it, basically screen resolution will be set by the kernel rather than setting it in userland as X does. From there that means a smoother, single resolution and flicker-free boot.

Think from the moment that bootsplash hits it'll be a fluid transition to the desktop instead of the framebuffer bootsplash to X start on [X,G,K]DM to another mode change for the user desktop. Also this will eliminate the mode switching when moving between VTs and X. The guys at Phoronix do a better job of describing it than I do:

    [Phoronix] A Preview Of Kernel-Based Mode-Setting

    Any thoughts?

It does sound good, though imo it took too long to get it in the kernel.

I was planning on upgrading to FC9 a couple of weeks after it came out, so I'll let you know then how noticeable a difference it really makes.
