Thumbs down Is Big Brother watching you?

I used to think Cousin lucky was paranoid but now I take it all back. According to this
    New Scientist article
your isp may be flogging your online browsing history to advertising firms. And it's perfectly legal because the firms don't get your name or other personal details, just an ID number for your computer. This really worries me!

I signed the petition after I this post. May end up changing ISP and mobile phone provider over this one ... waiting to hear how it goes first (Virgin media current ISP & mobile phone provider). Hopefully they will change their minds and give up on this ... it sounds as though BT are in hot water over the trial they did without getting customers consent.

You might be interested in using TrackMeNot. It's a Firefox plugin which will help to baffle the surveillance monkeys.

I suppose ISPs log searches separately from Google, so perhaps installing Tor is also necessary?

Hazel, companies and governments, spend a lot of money " categorizing " anyone with money in their pockets so that they can devise ways to put your money in their pockets.

Marboro's and Newports are so popular in New York City that the Chinese are growing tobacco and packaging " bootlegged brand-name cigarettes " for shipment to the big apple to sell for $5.00 a pack. The real thing costs $7.50 in the local stores.

Both of us are too old to worry about where these roads are heading. The youngsters, however, have a lot to be fretting over, sad to say.

There is a new computer program available now that is supposed to be able to scan your face and body movements for evil thoughts and intent.

The article I read stated that the machine flagged a man in an airport line who patted his chest too often. The man was taken from the line and brought to a room to be questioned. The man kept patting his chest because he was nervous and upset. He had his papers in his suit jacket's inner pocket and he kept running a check list through his mind of what he had to do because he was headed to hisvery suddenly deceased younger brother's wake and funeral. Ouch!!

I already run adblocker plus ... I'm not sure these things will work if the arrangement is with the ISP, I can understand things may work a bit better with a website you visit ... but does it help if your ISP is permitting this?

I'm not sure just how much it helps by enabling Tracking Filter, or if it helps at all for that matter, but it is advertised as "blocks tracking".

Maybe it's time for someone to start on a project that keeps ISPs from tracking our every move. People are always coming here and posting, wanting recommendations for a new project, so if it doesn't already exist that can be considered my recommendation to them.

All project hunters... look here first!
