    New Laptop

My wife and I decided it was finally retire at least one of the two old laptops we have so we bought a Dell preloaded with Ubuntu the other night. I will post further when it comes in and maybe a picture. We bought the Inspiron 1525n Upgraded the processor with one that had 2mb cache. I didn't upgrade the memory for now but I will later. It already has 1gb ram so I wasn't worried about that right now. I sprung for the colored top and got green for my wife since that is her favorite color.

Very cool! Please do post your experience with lots of details (what comes in the box, what's installed on the default desktop, etc). Pictures are good too.

Yeah I've been dying to see an unboxing on one of these. Plus, props for taking Dell up on their offer. It's always bad when we whinge for something then don't make use of it.

    Good for you.
I can't say much about Dell laptops since I never tried them, but right now I have Toshiba Satellite p10-10p and I'm very satisfied with it.

    Carlos,
Oh, hey this is cool. You could could do a step-by-step breakdown of your out-of-box experience, with a link to the pictures. In fact, if you wanted to, you could put together an article for the main page here at Linuxforums. I, like a lot of us here, would like to see how Dell delivers on the Linux OEM experience.

Distro News: Dell Preinstalled Ubuntu System
i posted some pictures on my blog. have any questions just ask them. so far I like what I got from Dell.

the first picture you will see the Ubuntu disk power cord and transformer. also came with a little black shammi to clean the screen with. Didnt come with any DVD's to burn like the last few times i bought pc's with burners. In weeks to come we will see if there are things I dont like. But for now this is neat and I am on cloud nine.

It looks quite similar to my 1520, but slimmer. I also notice there are no latches. Magnets perhaps? What holds the lid closed?
