My only real advice is to make sure gtk-qt is installed and working. Nothing worse than the ugliness that results from cross widget installation.

Aside from the ugliness (which does not hamper the software), you may have to install a lot of gnome libraries.

And although this is probably not what you mean, usually when running KDE and Gnome apps side by side I ensure the icons themes, system colours and fonts for each are synchronised and if possible the widget themes too. I usually just pop open gnome-appearance-properties and kcontrol and use the html colour codes or the dropper tool.

It may seem excessive and I'd certainly admit it's not necessary but it does give a nice consistent desktop feel.

I was thinking more on the lines of stability, but if the only drawbacks
are in the appearance of programs, that's cool

You won't notice any stability differences - the only differences in stability you will notice will be dependent on the quality of the code itself.

    Well that was disappointing.

All Monodevelop does well is crash. So I uninstalled it using the
command apt-get remove monodevelop and was told to use apt-get
    autoremove to clean things up.

Wow. I won't be doing that again in a hurry! All my buttons went
away in software like Firefox! I gave up trying to solve it last night
    and went to bed!

This morning they are back. Maybe it was unrelated after all

I can install Gnome apps on my Kubuntu install... all it needs is the backends.
