    Anyone tried Slackware 12.1 yet?

I've downloaded the ISOs and just played around with it in VirtualBox today. Judging from the crippling errors I've encountered in KDE and XFce I'm debating whether or not to waste CDRs on it.

Has anyone actually done a clean install on a real machine yet? If so, did you notice any issues? I'm not entirely sure whether or not the problems I'm having are specific to VirtualBox.

Well, the default KDE install will hard freeze on me if I try to launch KTerm. I haven't checked extensively, but it seems to be the only program that does this so far. In XFce the default terminal looks horrible. It's blurry with strange graphical artifacts all over it, kind of similar to an issue I had with Zenwalk.

Update. KWord, Konqueror and Firefox all launched just fine, but KTerm and any of the KDE games will cause a hard freeze. This is odd.

That's what I was waiting to hear. I'll burn the discs and see if I get a better result on Rig 2. Thanks.

Well, I didn't run into the freezing problems on the desktop, but I did run into mounting ones. Nothing I inserted (CDs, USB drives, etc) would mount properly in either KDE or XFce. I had to drop to a root terminal every time and manually mount and unmount removable media. This is incredibly annoying to me. I've posted a rant.

Funny, I just tried it out and it worked fine for me, both CD and USB key. Haha not sure if a rant is needed against Slack, ranting against Slack for not doing something automatically user-friendly is like ranting against a tiger for eating someone: sure it sucks sometimes but hey, tigers eat people.

    <3 Slackware forever.

Yes, I'm aware that automation is a four-letter work to Patrick, but I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for a CD to mount itself. I'm curious what is different between my machine and yours if you didn't have any issues mounting things.
