    I might switch to Sabayon

    Hi,

I hope someone can help clear my mind regarding a few things. Last night I finished downloading Ubuntu 8.04 LTS which took me 5h on this slow connection, not to mention, I've only got 3GB p/m bandwidth so 700MB is now gone. Unfortunately the ISO seems to be faulty so I can't use it - meaning I wasted 5 hours and more than a sixth of my monthly bandwidth allowance.

So I guess my question is, does Sabayon have a cool package manager? I've never worked with any Gentoo-based system (at least not intensely) so I don't know ANYTHING about how portage works. I don't mind using the CLI to download things via portage but a graphical version would be cool too.

Where can I learn how to use the basic portage equivalent of ''apt-get install application''?

Use the Gentoo Wiki and the official Gentoo docs if you need info on how to use Gentoo and the packaging system.

Nothing like talking things up is there.

By the way why don't you just get the Ubuntu CD?

I have ordered the Ubuntu CD but it will take several weeks before it lands in my postbox.

Thanks daark.child for the Gentoo docs.
