Happy Mother's Day Mrs. Michelle Duggar!!

Early this morning my old mind was completely hijacked by an AP news story about Mrs. Michelle Duggar, age 41, of Tontitown Arkansas, who is expecting her 18th child. The story has a 2007 file photo of Mrs. Duggar and her large family.

In this day and age I can not fathom trying to properly raise that many children. My mind freezes up wondering how I would even remember all of their names.

At any rate this Sunday is " Mother's Day " !!!

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, and their brood, live within a 7,000-square-foot home. All of their children's names begin with the letter " J ". They also do not appear to lack of food.

I come from a LARGE family, or so I thought, until I read that link. It makes my head hurt just thinking about trying to support that many people.

I have one kid (almost 6 months old), and I get shivers when I think of having to raise, feed, water, clothe, & educate eighteen!! :S

They're admirable people (especially Mrs Duggar for having given birth to all those kids), but I have to wonder about their reasoning. Why did they choose this? Why did they make this decision?

And why was I not surprised when I found out they are from Arkansas, and the husband is called Jim-Bob?

The Associated Press and My Way news do not allow links to their stories unless they are paid for. Mrs.Dugger gives her reasoning for her many births in the article. I think she intends to bring as many children into this world as she can.

Generations ago I have been informed that one of my female relatives had 22 children. I have seen people with five children go insane trying to cope with them.
I have been shaking my head and shuddering all day long because to me dealing with that many children in the same house does not compute.

Where do you go for " quiet time " or " privacy "?
Are your stays in the bathroom on a timer?

I wish I could get my cousin to get John Stossel and the 20/20 film crew to follow and film these people for a few weeks just to see what h_ll goes on in that house.

I got an email that says the Duggar's have a website and that I can submit a name for child number 18!

Seldom, er... make that never have I seen a woman bring that many kids into the world and still maintain any semblance of sanity, good looks, or a social life. A coworker of mine from long ago came from a family of 17 kids (13 boys, 4 girls). His mom looked like a used dishrag - washed out and faded. No disrespect intended. She was a sweet woman, but there was nothing left for her. Most days she could barely speak or maintain focus on anything. I don't think the female anatomy was meant to be put through that many pregnancies.

I guess I have to thank my lucky stars that I have not been attached to a woman that was addicted to having babies. My mother was one of nine children and I was the first grandchild; so I have seen the complications and complexities of dealing with a lot of people within the same house up close.

That is not my cup of tea. I wonder if Jim Bob knew what he was getting into!!
