In fact, cross-platform open source software (rather than Linux OS use) seems to have caught on here in the UK... up to a point. I'm seeing more open source Forum packages out there, and a couple of high profile public sector schemes for bespoke programs
I don't know if all of this is strictly GPL stuff, but it's encouraging. I don't actively advocate Linux much. If Linux became the operating system of choice for most end users I think this would encourage greater openness and information sharing in general.
Or is this too idealistic?
