Which stripe size should I use for best performance?

Didnt know where else to post this, but here it goes...

My fileserver has 4*500Gb in Raid 5, Ext3 formatted. Currently 4Kb chunk/stripe size (by a mistake).
Running Ubuntu 7.10 server.

It will hold mostly DVDs, music(Mp3), pictures and some documents. It will serve 3 other WinXP PCs in my home network, through Samba.

Which chunk/stripe size should I use in my Raid 5 array to get optimal performance?

Welcome to LF,

Check this link:

On block size , IMO,you can go for 16KB or 32KB block size which will provide better I/O.

Remember i never used RAID - so comments on it

Thanks for answering!

I'm just a noob in this, but this article describes filsystems block size, doesn't it?

I wonder about Raid chunk or stripe size

Code:
Device file /dev/md0
RAID level Redundant (RAID5)
Filesystem status Mounted on /DataRAID
Usable size 1465151808 blocks (1.36 TB)
Persistent superblock? Ja
Parity algorithm Default
Chunk size 4 kB
RAID status clean
Partitions in RAID
SCSI device B partition 1
SCSI device C partition 1
SCSI device D partition 1
SCSI device E partition 1

Because I chose 4Kb chunk size by a mistake, I would rebuild my raid array with a more recommended chunk size.

Again...Which chunk/stripe size should I use in my Raid 5 array to get optimal performance

Thanx in advance
Olec
