I've been playing with live Version but now I'm ready to install

I'm looking to build my first install, and I want flexibility but don't know what direction I should go in. I like Backtrack for the network work I do, but knoppix has a better suite of tools for all around use. When I install linux, I want a version that will support those type of tools but also have the flexibility to really be my system.
I have been thinking about SLAX, ubuntu, Debian, or Fedora, but really I am open to suggestions...

    Does anyone have any advice...

    Welcome to the forums J_dillinger

I suggest you try the distro quiz linked on this thread. Knoppix is really a live CD distro and installation on a hard drive is not recommended. Try the live CDs of some of the other distros you are interested in as well.
