Just to fill in some of the neglected categories:

    Scientific:
R – A Language and Environment for Statistical Computing
    Rkward (R frontend)
    Octave - open source matlab
g3data - Pulls data off of graphs. I'm not sure how popular this packge is, but if find it indispensible for comparing my data to the literature.

    Office:
    OpenOffice – Office suite
    Korganizer
    Linux since: 2001
    Gentoo since: 2004
    - - - - - - - -
    Translation:
I fix things until they break.

How is your site different from others that do this? Here's some examples:

    Linux on Laptops
TuxMobil: Laptop and Notebook Manufacturers - Linux Compatibility Status
    LinLap.com - Linux Laptop Wiki

If you want to attract people to your site, you'll need to have a hook for yours over someone else's. An angle, I guess you could say.

what about gathering most of information on a single page.... isn't it different?
people are going to the supermarkets instead going to a local shop, just because they can find everything in just one place.... isn't it a good idea?

and... this post is not spam...."look at my site!!!" . i want to get ideas just like you said...to be a little bit different. i don't think that we're in the point where there isn't anything to be done for linux community...

To compete in an established market you must do a least one of
    two things....

    1. Have a USP. Thats a Unique Selling Point, something that makes
you different enough to stand out.

    2. Do the same as the others but better / cheaper.

Maybe you should work on a really good search. And make sure
    your site is fully accessible.

Anyhoo, I was going to suggest vim, but it is already there so I
will suggest Vega Strike for games instead.
If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate! (Zapp Brannigan)

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
