MS access database conversion to .odb

We have a MS Access database setup at work but, I seriously want to use Ubuntu instead of Windows and in order to do this I need to be able to convert the Access database to .odb.
I followed instructions I found on another Linux forum but, it didn't work as Openoffice still opened the database in its' own word processor format within Base instead of showing me the database complete with its structure and entry forms that we use for entering details about jobs.
All I see is some characters at the top of a 'document like' application.
I have downloaded and installed Wine but, it does not show me the Access program when it scans my 'C' drive only my Windows directory and the Program Files directory which should contain the Microsoft Office directory but, does not.
Any ideas on these would be greatfully appreciated.

How complex is the database? If it is simple enough you could export the tables to a flatfile like csv and import them into a new odb. That would give you the opportunity to start from scratch and avoid bringing legacy junk with you.

    MS database further

The database is quite complex. Lots of boxes to fill on a single form. What do you mean by legacy junk?

Legacy Junk: Code that has been patched over time and become messy and unreadable.

    Doesn't Base import from Access?

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

No. I've tried that too. It's really silly because Writer imports from Word, Impress from Powerpoint and Calc from Excel. And Linux recognises .mdb files as jet engine databases: it's just Base that doesn't.

That does seem a strange omission! Maybe in the next release
