    Linux user & Spam

I just noticed I've finally made it to Linux user I should call my mother or something :P

Anyway, I've noticed a lot of spam posts around recently. Is there a way to make registration harder for robots?

We've been keeping a close eye, but the spammers are getting smarter...especially since CAPTCHA was broken. It does help a lot though if you report any spam using the report post button, any help there is welcome.

Anyway enough of the work stuff...CONGRATULATIONS!

Maybe you should ask questions when someone joins - a bit like they do on the Archlinux forums. Something like: Red roses are beautiful, what colour are they?
    Distribution: Archlinux
    Processor: 3 x Amd 64 bit
    Ram: 4 GB
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT

Hmm.. that sounds a bit like the color-blind test my father was given at the air force recruiter's office in the 70s... Turns out it's not very effective.

What about those visual tests you get on petition sites? The ones with distorted images of letters that you have to reproduce?

I think that's what we're referring to. They're called "Captchas," and the original algorithm has been defeated. There's a newer version called ReCaptcha that I believe is supposed to be more secure.
