Yeah, Xfce is pretty easy to get used to. It's also a lot lighter then KDE or Gnome. So yeah, it's a very good option....

Can't tell an OS by it's GUI

Slackware or Gentoo + XFCE = Fast and stable.
The other nice thing is that you don't end up installing a bunch of stuff you don't need and (esp Slack) they don't run a bunch of services you won't use. On top of that you will learn way more about the workings of the OS with these distros, they are much more hands-on.

Hehehehe........ I used Xubuntu before I even started this thread. I just wanted to see what people suggested when I opted out the major distros
