Apple is price gouging
Mac refuses to get a Linux iTunes which is bad enough. So eventually the Linux community found a way to make the new IPod classics work with Amarok, gtkPod, etc. There was a way around it. Then today I wanted to get videos from my IPod to play from my TV. I saw the Apple Cable at Best Buy for $53. That price for a simple A/V cable is ridiculous. Not even Radio Shack price gouges that much for accessories.
I have an IPod 80G Classic which has the TV out firmware locked so that cheaper 3rd party TV out cables dont work.
Does anyone know a way around this or am I stuck either having to pay a ridiculous amount for a stupid cable?

Save yourself some time, money and pride and buy a real media player.
thanks,

I tested off the charts for MENSA. Unfortunately, it was off the wrong end of the chart.

I got this damn IPod 7 months ago. I didnt research it and I just got it because I liked the way it looked. I regret it very much. Its a $250 dollar lesson.
I guess I will just have to wait patiently until the boys over at IPod linux hack it and let me use it. Its a shame that I cant even use my own hardware that I paid for in the way that I want to.

I feel your pain. I have a Classic, as well, and while I love having my media more accessible, it is a rather headache-inducing experience, in more ways than one...

Apple has always gouged. They were the ones who taught MS to gouge. Together they were part of a core group that built empires by elevating gouging to an art form. (For a peek at the MS/Apple relationship before windows, check this video.Apple is price gouging
I've never owned an iPod. Probably never will. It's a noteworthy product, but there are too many circumscriptions purposely imposed by the company. I am considering a media player though. Linux Journal did a review on the COWON iAudio 7 in the June issue. Looks like it could fit the bill for me. Plays audio in a half-dozen formats, including Ogg, FLAC, & mp3, Plays video, albeit on a 1.3" screen, and does the other usual duties such as displaying still images, recording audio (mic or line-in), and playing FM radio. It's limited to 4, 8, & 16 GB models for now, but if your needs are modest, as are mine, then 16 GB should be more than adequate. Best of all, it plays nice with Linux. Just mount it via USB and transfer files to your heart's content.

Newegg.com - BELKIN AV Cable for 4G/5G iPod (Color LCD) Model F8Z030-12-APL - Apple iPod Accessories
something like this cable. I found that cables at best buy are expensive not so much apple but then it could be apple too. Check the apple store and see if its cheaper.
- 06-03-2008 #10I've got an iAudio 7 and I like it a lot because it is both easy to use and versitile (all too often a rare combination). Not long after the iPod came out I also made a decision never to get one.Linux Journal did a review on the COWON iAudio 7 in the June issue. Looks like it could fit the bill for me.Linux since: 2001
