    hi guys,
just bought a new T61,Thinkpad, with base system Windows Home Vista, and partitioned Linux on it.
I'm new to this world, and one of those unfortunate ones who stayed stuck to windows for a little too long.

Good choice ... don't forget to use Synaptic Package Manager if you want to install software There is also lots of useful info on the Ubuntu website which you may have already found
Enjoy your Ubuntu and see you around the forums

why is ur post dated 2007 ?

    hey,
    thanks for the nice welcome.
I installed quite a couple of softwares from the "synaptic package manager"
yet, I was unable to set my bluetooth and webcam!
was following the instructions given at:
    Bluetooth-alsa
I was going religiously, and everything worked exactly as said in there,
but, when I used {hcitool scan}, it didn't find any devices
though the cell phone did find the same (SAMSUMG WEP500 Headset)
I only get lost, as I scroll through the forum, nobody talks about this problem anywhere!
can u direct me to the right place

I don't know if this helps ... you may be better off starting a new thread in peripherals or Ubuntu with a good title describing your issue I must confess I have not used Bluetooth on a PC yet

    temperarily abandoned

    hi john,
thanks for the link, I started off but finally decided to temporarily abandon that effort. so shall get back and start another fresh thread.
tell me how do u find a particular link that u started sometime?, is it just be using the search engine of the website !, or is there a more direct method; for eg. for connecting to this conversation that we are having, I have to always click on the email link that comes to me, when u reply, so how otherwise (other than seraching for your own name) can one get to the place?

    cheers,
    amrendra

You can search by user name in advanced search but I usually go to UserCP->List subscriptions ... once you go into UserCP if there have been PMs or fresh posts on threads you subscribe to they show first.

I found the email notification a pain so I switched it off by default ... so I just go to the UserCP and check for new posts there.
There is probably an easier way but it works for me
