I'd have to say out of KDE and Gnome I prefer KDE, but this is probably as much to do with using KDE for longer than anything else. ... easy ...

... easy how little things can put you off, when I first started using Linux I put KDE and Gnome desktops on the machine. I went into KDE and everything seemed to work ... then I went into Gnome - I can't remember what it was but something did not work (I'm sure it required a reboot - or at least that was my fix for it at the time) also the default setup with double click to open things put me off (I'd had enough double clicking in Windows ).

I must confess I'm an Arch convert at the moment (blame Manchunian) ... try the KDEmod it certainly feels faster than KDE in OpenSUSE.

I have tried Gentoo but I keep managing to break emerge ... I'm sure for people who have used it for a while they get a list of USE flags that work with everything they want, but I havn't got to that point yet. Its really frustrating to get through a few hours of compiling something like openoffice to find you have emerged something else with the wrong USE flags (and have to unmerge and emerge it again).

Enough rambling ... I'd give Arch a try but use the 32bit version if you want to try KDEmod (which I think you should).

Oh ya I forgot mention Sidux when I was mentioning Debian. I guess it depends if you are looking for something very differnt than Ubuntu of just more flexible.
