SNAP out of it Dan, it was just a bad dream, you're still a Linux user! heh

You can download pretty much every distro worth having for free from their websites. Check out distrowatch.com.

I don't normally share PM's out on the main board, but in this case, thought my response to i.want.the.eee.pc's PM to me might possibly be informative for anyone else reading this who may have the same questions as i.want.the.eee.pc seems to have. I won't post his/her PM to me, but some of what he/she asked necessarily has to be included:

No, I was being cynical.

This is really serious. I really need help!!! Do you recommend the Linux operating system or not??
I don't recommend operating systems to anyone as a rule, I can only tell you the advantages of Linux over Windows, which I cynically pointed out in my post.

The fact that it completely eliminates viruses sounds great. It also supposedly runs super-fast. The only thing is not being able to download things like (my most-used software programs)
Please read the linked article in my signature, "Linux is not Windows." It will help you understand the differences between the two. If you insist on running the exact apps you list in Linux, then you REALLY need to read that article. For most Windows applications and programs, there are a number of Linux alternatives that run equally as well, if not better. The EEE PC with Linux is mind numbingly simple to operate, provided the user doesn't expect it to do more than it is intended to do. I suggest you research it yourself and see if it fulfills your needs. If not, then use Windows. Good luck!
