Opinions: KDE apps in GNOME and the like..
So I have always gotten this funny feeling when installing an app that uses a lot of KDE backends (like amarok) when I run GNOME. I want know how other people feel about this type of thing.

I don't personally like to mix Gnome and KDE or their respective apps on the same system. Too many weird problems seem to present themselves from doing so, and some of them don't show up for quite a while after you've done it.
Lots of users mix them all the time, but it's not for me.oz

I mix and match all the time. I use K apps in Gnome and Gnome apps in K. Whatever works best for me I use and I have never had any problems doing it. Every once in a while I'll notice a spike in CPU usage with conky but it's all gravy. I use amaroK with xfce and fluxbox no prob too.

Same here. Gnome or KDE, but not both. It's not so much that I've run into errors; I'm just against clutter on my install and if I'm installing ten different library files and a handful of daemons and services just to run AmaroK in Gnome it's time for me to consider using a different program.

When I got started with linux I didn't really care about libraries and stuff. It just had to work to my pleasure. But when I got a little bit more experienced and when I found out the amount of disk space running gnome and kde apps vice versa, I started looking for alternatives...which basically brought me to XFCE4 and a whole lot of console apps.

I prefer Gnome, and I use K3b and Amarok. I wouldn't swap either of them and I don't want to go back to KDE just yet. I've had no problems at all. I do have a decent CPU and 2GB of RAM so I don't notice any performance difference though I didn't notice any on 384MB either.
What I do to make things look better is try and use the same icon themes, colours and styles across both KDE and Gnome, or at least keep them as similar as possible. Getting the colours right is most of the battle.

I run gnome. All the apps I run are gnome based except for amarok simply becuase I don't know of a better music player that suits me and is nice and easy.

I tend to stick to the apps that fit in with whatever DE I am using. I sometimes install k3b and Amarok whilst running GNOME because I am not too keen on their GNOME equivalents.

I like to give the native apps for a DE a chance ... the exception to the rule is k3b ... I have enough shiny coffee mats from trying alternatives
It's nice to have the choice to use a particular app if I want
