I was looking at finding out a little more about certification. Mainly so i could gear my linux learning in a specifc direction (ie, i need goals) Certs seem like a productive way to do this, I've read a little about Linux+ but experiance has tought me that the best way to get the street cred and rep of each cert is by asking real people. So, any suggestions or recommendations?

i think redhat (RHCE) is the best certification for linux...it's also available only in the us.i liked to go for it but it's far away from me!

I've read up a little on the Linux+ (and plan on testing for it sometime soon ) and it seems to be a decent basic Linux cert. I don't know about how much it helps in the workforce, but I've heard that Linux+ and Net+ are a good combo.

As far as what's entailed in the cert, it seems a bit elementary as far as Linux goes, but it covers a decent amount of stuff.

I am studying the linux + with 2 weeks before my exam. I have A+, and Network + under my belt. Next month I will have MCSA exam, then MCSE and finally CCNA. Then I can ask companies how much I want rather than how much they are willing to pay.
I suggest stick with Comptia and get CCNA and then C or perl for big money.
Temp Contracts suck but pay well. I am going for a perm 13k job just to have enough time to study.
If you get CCNA and you work like a robot then you will get more than a Degree guy. Cisco are going down slowly, but there is still time to make a mint working for them.

After reading this thread i went and done some investigation. Linux+ is supposedly to certify that you've got 6months admin/operator experience of linux. The exam is 90 minutes long, and contains 94 multiple choice questions to be answered in that period. Linux+ is scored 100 - 900. you need to score 655 to pass.

It looks kind of worth doing to me
