Configuring new PC with Linux OS

Hi, I am a newbie to Linux, though an oldie age-wise, 65 in a few weeks !! Just got a new ASUS EEE UMPC which uses Linux OS and I want to find out the "physical address" so that I can patch the new PC onto my existing wireless broadband connection (using a LinkSys Wireless 8 Broadband Router). Your advice would be much appreciated.

    Hi, welcome to Linux!
What do you mean by "physical address"? MAC aka hardware address? Anyhow, open a terminal window and type sudo ifconfig. This will reply with your NIC status and parameters. As a side note, MAC address filtering is not a security measure, network packets carry MAC address in plaintext and are easy to sniff. And easy to fake.
