Hi, tulledulle! Welcome to LinuxForums!

There are a couple of quizzes that you can take, here and here, that might help you choose. You can also check out this poll for opinions on which distros are considered 'newbie-friendly'.

Let us know which one you pick, and we'll be glad to help you out!

Okay, i just tryed the two tests.. And the results from the first test is :
1. Fedora
2. Mandriva Linux
3. Aurox Linux
4. KateOS
5. Ubuntu Linux

Second test:
1. Ubuntu Linux
2. Mandriva Linux
3. Opensuse Linux
4. Freespire

Alright, any nice words on Ubunto or Fedora ? I'm not looking for another windows kind of OS.. id like to learn how to use most commands, and i figure the only way is by getting a system where you need to be able to use SOME of these commands.. - Any comments?

And thank you for the warm reception Jayd512.. or Jay

Well... as it happens, I mainly use Fedora but keep trying other distros. I like it where others may say it's a little bloated. Ubuntu, on the other hand, has a pretty big following here on the Forums. And it's considered pretty easy to learn and to get your feet wet in the Linux world.

But if you're in doubt as to which one you want to try, both of these OS's offer LiveCD's to try them out without having to actually install anything to your HD. I would say that trying LiveCD's would give you the chance to look at them, try them out, and also make sure that they are compatible with your computers hardware.

Okay i burnt Ubuntu down to a cd whit nero (image burn) but the live cd didnt really work out.. nero said Foren file setting and something about image type (I've got nero in danish, so its a bid hard to transalte) anyway i picked data mode 1, and burnd Ubuntu (the file was only 330 mb ?, Fedora was 699 mb?, shouldnt the two live cd's be the same size?) - well i rebooted whit the Ubunto cd and nothing happend.. the computer didnt even react.. it just started up windows xp..

- whit the fedora cd i burned, the reboot worked, and im very happy about fedora.. there seems to be very little need for write any commands or codes, its pure click-and-drag(windows) kind of system. I was interested in learning commands and so on.. but i think fedora can do this this too? or can it ?.. anyway.. worked perfect.. downloaded easy and fast, burned whit no probs, and it worked like a charm..
