Favourite linux tools/apps...
There's probably something like this allready around, but what the hell :P
I'm just curious what kind of tools you people use on a day to day base, think about: instant messenger, text editor, music player, file manager, etc...
For me:
instant messenger: finch (ncurses based pidgin clone)
text editor: vim
music player: moc (music on console)
file manager: either midnight commander or bash itself (mv, cp, ls, etc..,)
Other things I frequently use are hellanzb for downloading from usenet and openftd (usenet database query program) for searching on usenet.
I also use lampp (xampp for linux) for testing my PHP scripts before uploading them.
That's about it I guess, how about you guys ?

Typically I do my text editing and a lot of light programming/scripting with joe, firefox for web browsing, pidgin for IM, audacious for music, and I do a lot of writing so usually openoffice for that stuff. Oh and geany for more intense programming jobs.

Well, I don't have a lot of must-have progs; but a few that are always on my drive within the first hour or two of a fresh install are: openoffice.org, htop, Amarok, FireFox, and K3B. VLC, Audacity, and Krusader usually find their way onto the drive within a day or two. And, at some point later, wine usually finds it's way onto my drive. I still haven't settled on a text editor yet. I'm auditioning gvim right now. For the rest... I usually use whatever comes native with the install, aside from codecs and such.

My applications
My applications are
Firefox
Scribes
Banshee
Phatch
GIMP
Scribus
Thunderbird
Avidemux
Eric python IDE (for some reason)
Twitux
Xchat
Liferea
and I use them every day, some of them are replacements for the default applications included in Ubuntu which failed to meet my expectations. But open source always offers another option.

The tasks we use computers today are unproductive. Maybe a simple iPhone could do well instead of a PC. Just what it can't is text editing (and I'm not sure about that coz I haven't seen it.)
Maybe we can do programming in various languages on PCs but that depends from person to person."When you have nothing to say, say nothing."
