I wouldn't touch it at all to be honest and I suspect that most of the forum will agree. They took Linux - which is free in every sense of the word - and Wine which is also free and then decided to charge for it and require activation.
If you're going that route you may as well stick with Windows. There are plenty of better Linux distributions and if you are going to pay for anything at all it should be support rather than the software itself. Especially so because these guys didn't develop any of it.
Do you have a lot of Windows programs you need that don't have Linux equivalents?

yeah i do have a lot of programs, but i have a hubby that is computer illiterate and he is used to xp so i thought this was the best for me, didn't cost me anything.
i tried to download fedora, but could not get it to burn as an iso.
so i am stuck between a rock and a hard place.
but anyway, i will see how it goes, if it fails then i will use it as a clay pidgeon hehe

Linux XP? I agree with bigtomrodney - waste of space. If you want to try Linux and are having problems installing, give this a shot. You download the .exe onto your Windows destop, you double click, you choose your language, which version of Ubuntu you'd like to try and...well, that's it! Easy! Note that performance is likely to be iffy as Linux isn't supposed to be run on a Windows partition: but the advantage of this method is that it's easy to install, and you don't risk anything if you decide to un-install it. However, if you decide you want to keep Linux, I would advise you to then do a 'proper' install: this will require you to burn an iso, which you can do with Nero, if you have it, or another free tool like this one
Also, always remember that Linux is not Windows: a certain amount of learning is required, but once you've got the hang of it you'll wonder how the hell you ever put up with Windows! Don't forget to post if you need any help at all.Distribution: Archlinux

HELL NO!!!!!!!!! And cause I am a lady, I am not going to use any swear words either
but lets just say, nothing worse than a woman scorned
I was a single mum for 2 years and there is no way I could do what they wanted me to with 2 little kids.
Well maybe there was, BUT it meant spending NO time with them.
and they would have to be locked up in their bedrooms for so many years.

That's capitalism gone mad for ya! Make money, not love! Stay at work, leave your kids to themselves; make the Company rich, let the poor die. But I'd better stop - big Tom is watching me (he closed the last thread where I vented my anger of how big companies treat the 'little' people - don't hold it against him, though
)
Anyway, I'd like to know how Microsoft perceives Linux. Do you think it's getting nervous? What was your job with them anyway?Distribution: Archlinux

oh hell yeah, i reckon they are, my superior used to go on about "free" os's haha and cause they're cheap they are no good :o
i was IT Tech support.
I didn't like it, I really wanted day shifts, but they didn't have any available, so I was stuck with working nights and staying awake with my boys all day everyday. My ex never paid me any maintenance so i needed the money.
My eldest understood, but my youngest couldn't understand why mummy used to fall asleep on the couch.
but anyway, it's all good now, I have another avenue to follow

I admire you, chevfans, I really do. You've had a tough time but you kept going for the sake of your children. How come your ex didn't pay keep? That's lousy! Isn't there a law about that in the States?
Anyway, I predict that you're going to really enjoy Linux, and I don't think it'll take you long to get to grips with it. I really hope that one day we can count you as one our "tech support" people. I'll keep a look out for any threads you write.Distribution: Archlinux
