Hi Everyone I am HRH
hi
I am HRH(Hamid Reza Hasani), I am not new in linux, but I new in this forum.
I worked with Fedora(it was so good!) and Suse10.3(it was not ok for me, I think I never try it again!)
but I chose Debian now(because of Fedora law for Iranian people, they limited Iranian people to use it! can you believe it? Linux, freedom, open source, GPL and limitation!!!!!
So I decided to work with Debian now.

Hi. hrh! Welcome to LinuxForums!

I hadn't heard that there was any type of limitation or anything for Fedora in Iran. Do you have a link where I could read up on that a little bit?Jay

Yes, you can check "http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Legal/Export", you will see this painful sentences:
"Fedora's software and/or technical data may NOT be exported/reexported, either directly or indirectly, to the following U.S. embargoed or restricted destinations:
Cuba, Iran, Iraq, North Korea, Sudan or Syria."

Well, it's an American company isn't it; it has to obey American law. And the gpl doesn't actually say that there can't be legal restrictions on distribution. It only says that if there are such restrictions and you are not able to distribute the software in a way that is consistent with both gpl and national laws, then you can't distribute it at all.

hrh...
The US state department makes these declarations from time to time. Some of them make sense, some don't. Last time I checked, they classified software encryption as equivalent to a munition, which it obviously isn't. The NSA's computers can brute-force crack any encryption available to the average citizen anyway, so what's the diff? Just a little sabre-rattling to get some politician elected.
Have you considered CentOS or Mandriva? They originate from the same branch of linux as Fedora. There are others that are derivatives of Fedora. Have you considered one of these?
