Hi
Ken, in Austin, Texas. Relatively new to Linux. Trying to get a workable persistent install on 16GB USB that works respectably like a full desktop and almost as fast. Currently triple-booting WinXP, Mint, and OpenSUSE on an X60s Thinkpad laptop. Cheers!

Hi all, I'm Ben.
I've tried to use Linux for years and have finally found a mixture of hardware and software I think is going to work for me. Ubuntu 8.04 seems to have the features I want and works flawlessly on my Toshiba laptop.
Now I'm trying to set up a Linux file & print server for my home network.

Neo from Jinan, China. In my city, you can hardly find a Linux user. Glad to join a community.
Best wishes.

I am Gaurav Prabhu from Mumbai, India.
Dumped M$ some 3 months ago & now plan to join Linux for lifetime.
I had tried Linux earlier but due to some problem, could never use it the way I wanted to.
A proud Linux user
Though I am posting now from windows as I am left with no space for Linux. I will be getting a new HDD just to learn linux, then onwards no intermittent Windows like now.

Hi all, I am from Chile in South America. I’m afraid, I’m maybe a bit old for your media, but my interest in computers is still alive and young.
I started programming in a decimal 2nd generation Standard Electric Lorenz computer with no compiler, nor assembler, nor screens, just a teletype to punch our machine programs on paper tapes. Then I had to embrace the IBM era with FORTRAN, assembler and COBOL, the Digital with BASIC until the microcomputers arrived. Then I had the pleasure to have a whole computer for myself. I could make some hacking in assembler with that elemental CP/M OS and some project development, first in BASIC (again), until I was introduced to C (great day, I’m still fond of C, programming C and C++).
I now am in love with open source (and Linux, of course), because at the beginning of IBM era, maybe not many remember, but we, the systems programmers had access to the Operating System source. It’s very refreshing to have back again access to the inners of the operating system source, after the long obscurantist Microsoft era. As you can see Linux is my first UNIX experience, I am still a bit puzzled with its file structure: where the applications reside, where I can find documentation, etc. Despite my long experience, in Linux and UNIX I am a newbie.

I'm in Louisville Kentucky but this place is not my home. Cleveland is but not like that is anything to be proud of.

Hello, My real name is Robert G. and I live in Elizabeth City, NC, USA.
How I ended up here:
Well, its a long story, so I will make is short as possible.
I found Ubuntu and Decided I wanted to install it whithin my Vista (Which I didn't know if you used disk it would install new OS) so I downloaded it and I liked it so I requested a Disk. Well, little did I know that if you boot an OS disk, it is going to clear out your Hard drive and delete anything in the way of the partitions. For one, my Vista back-up was in the Partition and 2, I had no Idea what I was doing. I booted my computer up thinking the GRUB loader was going to boot up when really, my Vista was gone and Ubuntu was the only thing on my PC. So in the end, I ended up here looking for answers. So far I am able to deal with some issues about installing Windows Programs and I tend to be a very fast learner if I have to attention span to do so. I like Linux better then windows in a lot of ways.
- No stupid "Are you sure you want to run this program?" ; Well, duh, I clicked on it.
- No Viruses!
- Un-hackable and great for hosting Game Servers.
So, thats just about it.
