Why don't you say where you are, that's what this thread's about.

If you want help you should go to the sections of the forums destined for those questions. If you can't find the answer, just make a new thread. I've done so too.

Smile Hi, Many years with Windows but new to Linux

I've added myself to the map (Stockholm). A week ago I read about Linux in my daoly paper and that it could run at 512 Mb of RAM, which I wolud say is nowadays too little for Windows. Half a year ago I finally bought a laptop with Vista and had planned to get rid of my old PC. But now I've found new use for it.

I have of course a lot to learn about Linux /Mandriva), for example how to install a printer. It seems it has to be down by using the command line. Having learnt computing in times before Windows arrived I should be able to do this.

Strangelet from the city of Hamburg here. I don't know when I popped a Knoppix CD in for the first time, but I've had Linux installed on at least one computer (it's four Linux machines now) for about four years. I tried several distros (Mandriva, Debian from Stable to Sid, Arch, Fedora, planning to try sidux), but Ubuntu has become and remained my main distro ever since.

Wink I was using Linux {install problem} and loving it, thanks to microsoft.

Hi everyone. I live on the coast of North Western British Columbia, Canada, in a town called Kitimat.

Thanks to the "Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant" that Microsoft installed into my Firefox browser without my permission, which caused my browser to crash repeatedly. To top it off they installed it at the machine level which disabled the uninstall and the disable button. This forced me to follow the instructions which are located in an article titled "
Brad Abrams : Uninstalling the Clickonce Support for Firefox", along with microsofts lame excuse for trying to destroy their biggest browser competitor:

Needless to say, I'm looking forward to working with a linux, just as soon as I can resolve my current problem {and it's a biggie, at least for me}, which can be viewed in the Ubuntu help thread, titled: I can't re-install Ubuntu.

I Appreciate everyones help on the forums for us newbee's, for without you all, I and many others would be lost and resigned to living in a world with only Microsoft's B.S.

    Have a wonderful microsoftless day.

And another huge Thanks again to all of ya. Kir_B

    Hi to All,

I'm Axel and I'm from Milton Keynes in the United Kingdom.

I work for an American company as a Systems Software Design Engineer. I write software for industrial applications (steel processing, paper converting and test stands); mainly PLC stuff with Rockwell & Siemens and Windows Applications targeting the .NET framework (normally I code in C# or C++) for GUI's.

I heard about Linux years ago but didn't pay much notice because I heard it wasn't very user friendly. I even tried it on a spare laptop I had a few years ago but couldn't get on with it so went down the 'easy' route and re-installed Windows.

Now because of the spiralling costs of MS software, some of the company's less than fair practices and the fact that I'm now prepared to put the effort in to get to grips with it all I've installed Fedora 11 and so far so good. I have a lot of questions (why I'm here!) but I hope you will all be able to help me.

So if you ever in MK holla at me!

    -Axel
