Convention Time Again, Game Suggestions
I know I created a thread about this a few months ago, but I figured I would start fresh this time. My fiancee and I are going to another convention for her at the end of this month and I'm starting to stock up on entertainment for my laptop.
I have Diablo (original) and Diablo 2 (with expansion) installed as stand-bys. On Linux I have Hexen and Heretic installed via DosBox. I also have access to a Nintendo DS and Nintendo GBA SP if I can get good recommendations on games.
I'm running XP and Ubuntu 8.04 on the laptop right now. What games would you recommend to pass the time at convention? (I will have internet via my fiancee's EVDO dongle.)Registered Linux user #270181

Elder Scrolls. ^,^
For the NDS... well, i don't really know what you'd like most, but my GF really likes Animal Crossing. For most "thinkers," Brain Age & Brain Age II are great games --and you can play Sudoku on them, if you like (but it's not necessary, if you don't).
Oh, and you can always put linux on the DS. ^,^
BTW have you ever played Konquest?
That's all for now -fleeting thoughts....

You could go for some good ol' fashioned violence with Quake.

If you can find Trespasser, it works perfectly in Linux under regular wine in software mode.
Not generally anyone's favourite, save for a select few nuts like me, but it does have interesting puzzles and the landscapes are very cool. In 1998 few computers could run it. Today they can! It's one of the few games I've ever played that can deliver genuine anxiety and fear!
Found the demo here. I haven't run it with the latest wine but previous wine releases ran the demo as well as the regular game.

Well, since you've got internet... definitely Enemy Territory: Quake Wars running natively from linux. Same for Unreal Tournament. The Elder Scrolls 3... and 4, from Wine. Since you like Diablo; Neverwinter Nights 2, also from Wine. Don't know about you, but I like a good round or two of GL-enabled mahjongg before rack time, on occasion. If you were running Cedega, I would recommend Kyodai Mahjongg. And while you're cooling your heels between frag sessions, go sign the petition to request a native linux client for "Witcher". Of course you could forego all this and just spend the time loading Yellow Dog on a PS3 for kicks.

I haven't been able to get Dungeons and Dragons working yet, but I did rediscover an old favorite of mine, "Kingdom of Kroz". it's a text based strategy game but it's pretty darn cool. I used to play this game for hours at a time.

Oh and BTW, you'll need Dosbox to get it working, Wine won't do it.I do not respond to private messages asking for Linux help, Please keep it on the forums only.

I rather liked Blood... The game hardly gets mentioned: a shame because I really enjoyed playing it in my Windows days. No idea if it will run using Wine, but I found it darkly amusing.

I had a copy of Blood at one point, but I must have tossed it years ago. Fun game. Sort of a darker version of Duke Nukem.
::EDIT:: That being said, perhaps I should add a constraint on suggestions for games I actually have a hope of obtaining before the end of the month. I don't have an eBay account.Registered Linux user #270181
