Internet Reliability
I've seen a few polls put up that ask about internet connection speeds, price, other little details. But I was wondering what kind of reliability you guys actually have from your ISP. How confident are you that when you sit down to your computers, that you will have a connection that works, and won't drop off in the middle of your session?

98.9% assured that it will be there and up to par. 1 percent expectation it will be there but will be dog slow. .1% expectation of failure.

Funny that you should post this now.... I just got a text msg from my wife telling my that we have lost dsl sync :s
Normally though it's really good but when it doesn't work its more annoying then a todler with red bull.
I used to have drop issues when browsing / gaming before I found another phone socket closer to the computers, drops where becuase of WiFi signal, it's still sometimes drops with windows and needs a repair but linux is rock solid.Last edited by Geeth; 07-08-2008 at 01:34 AM. Oh, I have various internet issues all the time.
I'd truly hate to be in a position where I had to depend totally on the internet to conduct business operations.oz

Ouch!
My internet is mostly rock solid. But then I haven't gat a bargin basement connection. Most
people look at me like I'm mad when I say how much it costs (£24.99 per month, just for
internet) but I think it is worth it for the sheer reliability. Due to where I live, it aint the fastest
but as a bod who remembers 2,400 baud modems, 3 - 3.5 megabit still amazes me.If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate! (Zapp Brannigan)
My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

With mine, it's all better now. Stupid modem is getting touchy with the power connector.
That point of the modem life that brings it closer to a hammer. When the power cord is in but not connecting right and the modem doesn't get enough current to boot right.

My internet's pretty reliable, but my damn router isn't.
Every now and again (strongly correlated with times when I'm transferring a lot of stuff over the wireless connection) it will crap out for ~30 seconds. Sometimes it's so bad that I have to power-cycle it a couple of times to get the connection back.

Of course, and to be extra cautious i will make sure I use an industry standard hammer

I have never had good luck with modems. First one died becuase of a power out during a flash
2nd just stop connecting and then didn't turn on again.
3 rd melted inside, i couldn't even get the power cord out of the back of it.
My current one well I hate the interface and the power cord is being funny.

Mine works like a champ on steroids 99% of the time, but if I take my Linux machine to Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test I actually have to reboot my whole setup to get it working again, meanwhile my wife will be surfing happily along.
