Obsessive much?
Just wondering what are my fellow linux users obsessive about when it comes to pcs?
Examples could be anything
Sound, do you have to have the world quietests pc?
Lights, do you need to have the case look like a rave party inside?
Speed, do you need you pc to boot and load faster then the increasing cost of oil?
Stablility, do you have to have your more stable (damn i can't think of a lame pun)
GUI, do you have to have your gui as flashy and hundreds effects running at once?
Latest and greatest, do you have to update everything as soon as there is something to update (software or hardware)
Mine would have to be noise more then anything. Though only only have 1 really quiet pc, which is the wifes one and has the cheapest case of the 3 pc i in total lol.

I've gotta tell you, sometimes I really do enjoy using the PC without any sounds at all.
No, I don't care for any flashing or brightly lighted LEDs on my box.
Yes, I love lots of speed. Instant action makes me happy.
Stability is a must. I go nutty if things don't work as they should.
No, I don't like lots of eyecandy and usually avoid all of it that I can.
Yes, I like to run updated hardware when I can afford it.
For me... it's all about functionality and true usefulness. It's very clear to me that there are millions of computer users out there that would be thoroughly entertained if their computers would do back-flips on their desktop. It's my opinion that those users would be better served watching a circus rather than expecting their computer to perform acrobatics.
But of course, that's just me!

Let's compare
I wish I did but my Nvdia 8800 (Windows gaming only) is kind of noisy, probably its responsible for 70 percent of the noise my desktop produces. Tux racer at 250FPS baby.
My custom case is the Raidmax Smilodon (black) which happens to look amazing at night, I always wanted one.
Yeah I tweak the settings
I find Ubuntu to be already stable and I use a Quad core processor I don't want some application testing slowing down the whole business. I actually have a use for a quad core.
The visual effects on Ubuntu are set to normal because they actually help when managing multiple applications
Software of course I do, hardware costs money all I have left is to get 1 more gig of RAM and I am set for 3 more years of great service
By the way if you notice I use the I too often, I am weird.

I guess the only thing I obsess about is my laptops have to be packed into the saddlebags of my Motorcycle and work after I get to whever I'm going. Hence I own a Panasonic cf-48 Toughbook and an Amrel Rocky ll Rt686.

I make mine ultra cold so that it will run at its peak. I like it to be ultra quiet too but of course there's a trade off.
So, eh...I'm obsessive about the balance between cold and quiet? :s
I've been known to pop the side off my PC and turn all my fans up to maximum to watch the temperature drop right down. Then after an hour I'll decide I'd like it to be quieter.

Heh, I play around with giant old servers so this "quiet" you speak of is no concern of mine. ^,^
Although I don't have much to play with, but I'd have to say that my "obsession" is with putting as much stuff in there as I can, and a tad to do with storage. I have some retro SCSI-1 action going on in one of my older computers (I need more power...), as many other HDDs as I can shove in and USB peripherals as I can come up with. I even have a SmartCard reader (stolen from my dad's DirecTV-hacking days...) that I can't get to work --but it's hooked up, just for that special occasion. ^,^
But on my main computer, I have to be obsessed with storage capacity. I have three PATA drives (two forties & a thirty) for OS-handling and minor storage; then I have a 320 GB SATA drive where I store my ISOs (instead of ripping my movies, I just make complete copies; and for Linux & gaming, of course), Movies (for those already in a digital format), pictures (LOTS of pictures), and music (LOTS and LOTS of music...). Until recently this has been the most storage ever to be in my household, and it's currently almost filled up. But I'm getting a 500 GB SATA to add in in a few weeks that should help out a little. ^,^

I can't say I'm particularly obsessed with anything now, but I do insist that the operating system I'm using not get in my way. Once it does, it's all over.
Freshman year of college I was obsessed with playing all the PC games I missed out on from growing up on a Mac. In my later years I was obsessed with having the best video hardware I could afford.
Lately, most of that has gone by the wayside. Rig 2 is still churning along on its 6800, and I have no real reason to upgrade it. I've played pretty much all the PC games I wanted to and the only ones that stick around I play on my laptop instead. I don't have as much time or interest in tinkering with the desktop machines as I used to.Registered Linux user #270181
