greetings:
also from a linux newbie, with a difference. I just retired, at age 70 from a physics position in the US. Ubuntu is superb, and with advice such as from Manchurian, my next PC will also be non dual boot. free, free at last!

I have Wine and Virtual Box installed on my sabayon3.5. Do you think it's enough to replace windows completely. I want to get rid of windows too.

Well, that depends. Some people just go cold turkey and never look back. Some people never get beyond dual booting. No one is forcing you to use Windows, but no one is forcing you not to use Windows either.

Ah well, as long as you have install CD's and good backups there really isn't much that can go wrong either way.
