Moving to Nashville, TN for a job possibly

I got a call from a recruiter for a job in Nashville, TN. I will be working as an Oracle DBA if I get the job. I now live in a small town halfway between Atlanta and Chattanooga. So that makes Nashville 2.5 hours away from my current home. If I get the job it will a 50% raise : ). I currenlty work as Oracle Database Analyst and about to get a raise from them in August. I will have to sell my house soon after moving up there. I have also thought about renting it out, my wife's family lives in town so they could take care of that for me for a little money. We have already found a nice place to stay. Just waiting to schedule an interview. What do you think of Nashville, what about jobs? If this job does not work out then I would need to get another job quick. Also, the job will be a 90 day contract to full time position. That makes a nervous! No insurance and after 90 days I could be let go for no reason. Makes me not want to sell my house for the first 90 days.

A raise is always good.

As to your house, I would hold onto it as long as you can afford to. At least until you know they are going to hire you. Like you said there is no guaranty that they will hire you. A lot of companies are going this route Try before you hire because there are so many saying they can do the job but only a few can do it the way they want it done.

Good luck!!

thanks for the advice! I was going to drive up on Monday morning, stay in a hotel Mon-Thurs and drive back Friday while my wife stays home. After a little while of that I can then either rent it out(which would probably be easier) or sell. I have only owned the house for a little over a year so I have not paid it down too much and houses are selling well below appraisal. I did buy it ~7k less than appraisal last year.
