| How many of you single-boot Linux? I've often wondered this: how many of you have taken the decision to take Windwos off your computer and single boot in Linux? I don't mean, how many of you have got rid of Windows altogether: perhaps you, like me, have a second computer where you have a dual-boot. I mean, how many of you wiped Windows off your 'main' computer and why did you do this? I'm asking this because it would be nice to be able to throw a statistic at the newbies that come out with things like "Linux is crap" or "Why is Linux so complicated" etc. We were all new to Linux at some point, but some of us found Linux to be so much better than Windows that we were couragous enough to get rid of Windows completely.
I myself single boot. This is as much accident as anything else, but I've never been tempted to rectify it. One day I tried booting into Windows XP and it refused: aparenty a virus had damaged the boot loader. I wasn't that upset, though: I was wondering how I could get rid of Windows in such a way that my wife wouldn't get mad at me! She was initially cross, "You've got to re-install it!" but as she used Linux more and more and got used to it she pestered me less and less. Now she'll even defend Linux againt Windows in conversations where the topic pops up. Converting her has been one of the highlights of my life!
