VMware's ESXi being remarketed as a free product

Now this is cool. VMware is making ESXi -one of their bare-metal virtualization products- free as of next Monday, the 28th. That's free, as in free beer. ESXi has been a US$495 per copy product. All this is being done as a counter to Microsofts' recently finalized Hyper-V.
Well go VMware! Will Workstation be next?

Hmm, now Microsoft can still make money on Windows Server 2008 while giving their Hyper-V for free ... how does VMWare think they will recoup their cash ?

They should have given VMWare Workstation for free ...and used VMWare ESX for cash (for those Enterprise's that can afford it).

Company's like Microsoft or SUN can make money because their Virtual Machine environments revolve around their OS.
