Not buying anything from them.
A shame really... I quite fancied a new motherboard.
Also I've told them the same thing... honestly... you'd think people were just wasting their time writing specifications to make sure hardware actually sodding works!

Thanks for posting this one, Carlosponti. I've been giving some consideration to the idea of a new planar. I'm sure this will alter my acceptable candidates list.

I just had to find that story on Digg and digg it!
That is just outragous behavior by a hardware manufacturer... you can't claim "ACPI compliant", but on for Windows. I'm kind of glad I only by AMD computers seeing as it looks like (from the comments) Foxconn only provides Intel mobos to OEMs (can anyone confirm or deny this, please?). I generally by HPs and I see Foxconn is their main provider, I want to make sure I don't give any incentive to them to keep doing it."Today you are freer than ever to do what you want, provided you can pay for it!" --Bad Religion

Whew... Just read the entire thread.

I just emailed Foxconn from the complaints form he recommended.
Just trying to be "part of the solution"!

i used to write companies to state my feelings but it seems like customers really dont get much say in product direction anymore. After the umpteenth time of being told that they just don't support linux and I am out of luck i gave up. boycott works for me at least i know I am not buying one of their products.

Matthew Garrett doesn't readily agree with the conspiracy statement, to put it mildly.
Now I don't have either the intelligence or the knowledge to judge who is right. I just thought I'd point out an opposing view.
Nobody in their right mind trusts MS, but they may not be behind this after all
I just hope it gets solved.
Also, on a related note, I found this in dmesg:
I guess we have choiceCode:ACPI: If "acpi_osi=Linux" works better, please notify $emailaddress

It has been my experience when something appears to be blatantly obvious, there is often a simple and logical explanation to the contrary.
Thus, I'm withholding judgment on this until it appears certain Foxconn willfully and knowingly inserted bad code for the specific purpose of creating problems for Linux users. I thought this was an interesting related story...

In situations like this I think it is fun to spring the "Devils Choice" on the company concerned and watch them suffer a bit...
You ask them if it is the sinister thing or just incompetence.
Now they have to choose between two bad answers. Face to face, that is a fun thing to do

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
