I am so new...
...they are stll putting the wet behind my ears. I just (within the last five minutes) joined LinuxForums. I played with Fedora 3 in the past, and disappointment with recent Microsoft products and policies motivated me to get serious about Linux. I installed Ubuntu 8.04 this afternoon.
Most everything looks good, and the hardware generally works, though I am getting messages that I might find some more efficient drivers on various hardware mfgrs. websites. One problem is that I cannot access the internet from Ubuntu.
I currently have this PC set-up as a dual boot PC. I can access the internet when running Windows/(IE or Firefox) but I san't access the internet while running Ubuntu /Firefox. Gotta find an appropriate forum to resolve that issue.
Glad to be here. I hope I don't wear out my welcome as a newbie before I can start contributing.

i'm new too
hi, I'm new here too. I have been hearing so much about Linux and I really really distrust microsoft and bill gates. I want to learn as much as i can before I take my old old p-4 766mhz with xp pro and install Linux on it. The first thing i would like to ask for is a list of explanation of terms if one exists...i don't know the terminology so if there is a source of definitions of Linux software terms and even hardware terminology, i would be very thankful.
my experimental pc is an old Dell pentium 4 766mhz, 256mb ram, 8 gig hdd, with a cd rom and .......I hate to admit this....but it has a floppy disc drive too (for those of you that are young, a floppy disc drive is a device that was once considered great portable data storage and held a whopping 1.4 mb of data!)
I am also very interested in installing Linux on an old p4 laptop. it should be perfect for what i want it for.
thanks,
Mike
