I like the idea of the ICE one alright, might check that out. Lapis is pretty slick looking too. I actually use a GDM theme that looks like theirs.

ZevenOS looks interesting for a old 900 mhz,248 mb,,Laptop I have. Don't understand German though. Noticed screen shots were in English though. Gonna google and check up on it a little.

Well after googling and finding ZevenOS will run on a Pll with 128mb ram I entered their code and turned off firestarter firewall and my firefox loading bar is stuck at halfway and just now timed out. I guess bit.Road.com is getting too much traffic to download it tonight. Guess I try again some other time.

Thanks for the update. Let us know what happens. I'm working on getting Lapis. I'll let you know what that's like after I try it out.

Well connected to mirror 1 this time istead of mirror 2 when I was on the laptop. Loading jumping from 19 KB/sec to 50 KB/sec on ethernet land line. They must be really getting hammered. Downloading Beta 5 version. I am just gonna let it take its time as I want a good md5sum outa it. Have about a 4 to 5 hour wait to finish I guess. Oh well, No worries. Wow at 2 % since typing this post with a current finish time of 5 drat now at 10 hours. Told ya its all over the place.

ZevenOS also has an English info page. I found it when I was done with the German version.

As I understand it they want to build a distro resembling the philosophy of BeOS but with the versatility in hardware compatibility of Linux. And they use *cough*anotherone*cough* Ubuntu as base. It could be good for older hardware, or the new mini laptops(?). Let us know how it goes.

It might take a week the way this is downloading. LOL Figure I'd give some background on what I am gonna try with it. Its gonna run live 1st on a Amrel RT 686 EX Laptop has a 900 mhz cpu,256 mb sdram, and hot swappable 20 and 100 gig hardrives. Amrel states on their site that they are Linux friendly and I have had good luck running Mepis Antix,Xandros,Puppy 3.01 on another Amrel I have (RT 686 Rocky ll, 500 mhz cpu, 120 mb sdram). The Rocky ll took a dump a week ago watching a streaming Zatoichi movie. LCD blacked out and on reboot got a bios screen for 1 sec, then the boot screen for 1 sec so I know its hardware releated. Haven't had time to do the external moniter check yet. Whats nice is the hardware (cdrw, batteries, power adapter, hardrives and caddies) are interchangeable between laptops in a couple minutes.

The test is going to be if ZevenOS can handle my Belkin Fd5 7010 PMCIA wireless card,Xircom CBE2-100 PCMCIA 10/100 ethernet, Targus DVD04-T08 8x/24x PCMCIA DVD/CD-ROM. Expect a lot don't I? I think the Belkin has a Ralink chipset, Xircom is usually plug and play, DVD might take some work but they are supposed to include ndiswrapper. Internal cdrw should be plug and play also. Amrel Floppy drive fits in cdrom bay when needed. I'll update after I test drive this distro out later.

    tRiPpy!
Zevenos uses the same background that I am currently using. I feel all special and stuff.
Anyone got any reviews for any of the above yet? I need an English version of the Lapis Linux webpage.
