iam new to ubuntu 8.04 ..REALLY DONT KNOW WAT TO SAY !! JUST LOVING USING IT


i tried open suse11 before this..i got frequent problems but..UBUNTU IS ROCKING!!!!!!!!!!!

Ubuntu advertises itself as "Linux for human beings". I know of other people on this forum who have had problems with OpenSUSE. SuSE may be a wonderful distribution in its own way but it was designed as a workplace system and it sort of assumes there is an IT manager around to do configuration stuff.

One thing I have learned is sometimes a distro will work on everything and you will come across that one pc it doesnt work on for what ever reason. I usually keep my distro options open. But Ubuntu is my general use distro.

I'd second the notion that good compatibility from a distro/hardware point of view can often swing it for a distro. I think if openSUSE had 'just worked' you may have stuck with it.

That said I'm an Ubuntu user and loving it too

I like your enthusiasm.
I felt the same way last summer, when I installed Ubuntu 7.04 successfully for the first time. I seem to go through periods when i try other distros, but I always seem to come back to Ubuntu eventually. It's about as close to a trouble-free distro as I've found.

I'm there also. although i have been using xbuntu for about 8 months...i don't count that, because i used it to save a dead laptop. but the real "test" was installing 7.10 on my newer desktop, and it works better than xp for sure, and i love it. I did end up doing 5 installs, but 3 of the problems were my fault, and it was a learning experience that I'm glad i suffered through, cause now i know how to install it blindfolded. Ubuntu works for me, I just need a usable computer, I'm not techy at all.
