Where do you buy computer(s)/hardware?
Well, I just got this mysterious donation after sticking a $100 hole in my bank account --which was right before I got the chance to FINALLY get something for myself (I was gonna buy that pretty $70 500GB HDD from NewEgg). I'm not in the hole anymore, and although I do plan to save a good bit of my... donation, I still think it's high time for me to splurge. I found a NICE "open-box" video card and MOBO/CPU/RAM combo for less than $60 each, but before I tried to waste my money (and risk the power cutting out in the middle of purchase; there's a thunderstorm about...), I thought I'd take a deep breath and see what other options are out there.
So... where do you get your little pretties from? NewEgg and TigerDirect (.com's) are popular and the two I visit most when I feel like drooling, but beyond that I don't know much of what else is out there. Are there any other places you know of that can hand out 2GB microSD cards for less than $10, or perhaps a cheaper place to find my next hard drive?
Oh, and I live in the U.S. --not to limit the audience, but if it is not a U.S. or International store, please advise.
...And no, I didn't rob a bank (despite what the security cameras say).

Lots of great deals can be found on eBay.
You just need to do your homework and use common sense when purchasing from there.oz

(Yeah, I know --I'm the first to reply to my own thread... weird.)
I found geeks.com --a 500GB, 7200RPM drive for $60, and I'm not through looking (although I must sleep now...).
So, others do exist?...

I get all of my stuff from komplett.ie, elara.ie and ebay.
I'm guessing that won't be much help though
Komplett have international sites (it's Norwegian I think?) but they are mostly for Europe as far as I know.

Usually from SED Int'l, but I'm a reseller (in th' US). When it "absolutely, positively" needs to be in my hands NOW, CompUSA is now Tiger owned so prices are VERY near what I'd pay SED.
flEa-Bay is a caveat emptor thing, but have had some good buys for stuff wot wuz non-critical.

been buying computer parts for 7 years now, always from newegg, their prices are usually down near the lowest, they have cheap shipping, and returning DOA stuff for exchange has never been a problem, i hate tiger direct, everything is sold with rebates, i hate rebates, they take forever, i'd rather just pay a slightly lower price and forget about the rebates, i will never buy computer parts from anywhere but newegg personally

Across the board, Newegg is tough to beat if you're in the US. If it's not a must-have item, I'll sometimes pop into one of the local brick & mortars. Circuit City, (who I really can't stand, for the most part) just happened to have my model of monitor on sale for less than any of the online houses. My brother snatched it up for 10 dollars less (after tax) than I paid for mine at Newegg. A rare occurance, but it happens sometimes. I pretty much stick with Newegg though.

for 90% of things, I go to FRYS, I was so happy when they came to town, you can get things as small as tiniest screws, all the way up to whole systems. I had been ripped off 3 times on best buy "rebates" and so far frys has honored everything I bought there.

I usually get my computer parts from tigerdirect, but I also search around a bit before buying. When I ordered my Eeepc 2g surf, I read a lot of reviews, and found a site that was selling the unit I wanted at a much lower price than anywhere else. Don't forget to check the site's policies as well. Some sites are better to buy from than others. Not a big fan of newegg though. Most of the time I find something I want from there, I've found it cheaper somewhere else.

Agreed!
Generally speaking, I refuse to buy anything that is sold with a rebate. It's just too much work and trouble to get it all together, and mail it in, then have to track whether or not it comes to you.
Simply lower the price a bit more to give me a good deal, and I'm happy.oz
