I'm on call this weekend so I somehow got stuck 100 miles from home, sitting in this mall parking lot, waiting for a phone call and I thought; "why not torture yourself with trying to type a legible message on that impossibly small keypad?" So, torture it is.
Actually, I have a question... Has anyone else here tried the latest Sabayon release? Night before last, totally spur-of-the-moment, I decided I would give it a go. I haven't really had the time to thrash about in it, but I like what little I've seen so far. The first thing to hit my eyes was the change in default color scheme. I was a big fan of the black & red 'darkness' style scheme, but the lighter colors don't look all that bad due to the artistic stylings of the designers. (That's a compliment, btw). I also like the humourous messages that pop up on certain screens & dialog boxes. Signs of human intelligence are tucked here and there throughout the distro.
The install & config are a little more involved than 3.4F, but that's really a good thing. It prompts you to make your choices at setup time, rather than just opting for a default setup and returning to reconfig later. And it does this more pleasantly than OpenSUSE too. I like it. I also like the way they've customized so many apps to give them a more uniform look. Not everyone's cup of tea, I know. But I think it's kinda cool.
I've heard that Gentoo and Gentoo-based distros are good to develop your linux chops on because they are very well documented, but they don't make things TOO easy. Guess I'll find out. Only time will tell if it's got the goods to dethrone Ubuntu as my distro of choice.
