[Inane_Asylum]

I'm building a computer for my wife that'll be running Kubuntu 8.04.1 with many of the slick GUI enhancements (Compiz, Screenlets, etc.), and I was wondering if there were any advantages/disadvantages to using an AMD vs. Intel-based system. The main reason I ask is that AMD systems are noticably cheaper to build. My current one is an Intel, running extremely well so far on Hardy+KDE. I haven't seen anything that would indicate a problem on an AMD system, but I thought I'd check here before dropping several hundred dollars on a system.

I have both an AMD system (desktop) and an Intel system (laptop). In my personal experience, I've had no issues with either and I've found no clear advantages to either. That's when we're talking about CPUs.

When we're talking about onboard components, the wireless components on my laptop's mostherboard (Intel 3945) work out of the box in most Linux distributions with no special configuration or drivers needed. That's a valuable thing to me.

Yep, I agree that either should work well under Linux.

It's pretty much a chocolate vs vanilla issue. Personally, I prefer vanilla.

Awesome, thanks. I figured there wouldn't be a problem. Now to tackle the WiFi and audio issues on my Toshiba laptop... >.<
